Kindle Cover Review & Giveaway!

Many e-book users are almost as invested in the covers they use as they are the actual device. Since we carry it with us almost everywhere why not? Covers also add important function as protection and by creating a comfortable reading platform. However, looks do count and I checked out four fresh options for Kindle owners.

Halsea for M-Edge

More and more designers are catching on to the Kindle craze and M-edge, one of the top e-cover makers has inlisted the brand Halsea to create some unique ones. This laminated cotten cover in a bold graphic is right up my love for shiny fabrics alley. It also comes in a blue/green option.

It arrived in a lovely protective storage bag and uses a simple but nicely detailed, corner strap system to hold the Kindle. I love the soft brown suede interior and the leather spine folds back easily to make holding it with one hand very easy. It is light but has a nice layer of cushy protective padding on both sides.

I  especially love this leather seahorse detail on the back, the strap can easily be pulled around to hold the cover in place while folded back. I really love this cover and it is priced well at just 34.95.

Octovo Quilted

This is a high end leather cover who's beauty is in its simplicity. The design is carefully constructed with diamonds of real leather, some more textured than others. I can imagine over time it will only become more beautiful with wear and age.

All this simplicity gives it a super slim profile.

The color described as "nude" has a definite pink undertone, so I would call it more of a "blush". It comes packaged in a lovely box and wrapper and is priced at $75.

Octovo uses the hinge system to hold the Kindle in place, there is also one corner strap to keep it even more secure. Inside is a soft black interior with no pockets, which I really like. I think this design with a colored interior like chartreuse or turquoise would be even more striking.

 Noreve in Baby Blue

Noreve is based in France and does very high end (or as they call it "Haute couture") covers in incrediably soft leather. The super clean design is classic and it is offered in a large variety of colors and even textures.

Noreve uses their own rail system design to hold the Kindle in place and it holds it quite well. I am not really crazy about the "wallet" included on the left, I feel it adds unnecessary bulk to an otherwise sleek design. I think this would be better as an optional feature.

Still, it is very light weight and the cover folds back easily for one handed reading. Priced at just under $75, each cover is made when ordered and can take a couple of weeks to ship.

JAVOedge Kyoto Flip

Not only does JAVOedge bring unique fabrics to their covers but along with the traditional book style they have a cool "flip" design.  The perfect cover choice for those that like to multitask. A discreet built in stand allows the Kindle to stand up. It snaps back into place when not in use.

Very light weight, it uses this slip style sleeve to hold your reader securely and a magnet closure system that works really well. It is also the least expensive option at just under $30.

The colors were a bit of a pleasant surprise, on the site the dominant chocolate brown color you see above looks much darker almost black on the site. I much prefer this and there are surprizing pops of pink and blue as well.

I bought a JAVOEdge cover on your recommendation (a beautiful pink leather flip case) and I have LOVED it. It has survived many months (and several trips) in great shape and you'll use the stand a lot more than you think!

I know you've mentioned it before, but what kind of skin do you have on your Kindle? It's beautiful!

OMG Lara...love love love the first and last two covers reviewed. I may have to spring for either if I don't win...lol.

1) Yes, owned a K1 a few months after it came out and recently upgraded to a K2. It is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Mom love her K1 and is now reading more than she was before and that is great since she used to be a voracious reader.

2) I don't know if I have any favorite summer books as I usually just read what my mood dictates though I love chick lit, my tastes vary. I'm currently on a Nelson DeMille kick so we'll see how long that lasts being his books are pretty substantial :-)

3) I had to purchase another Oberon cover for my K2...just love the craftmanship that went into making the cover and it is just so darn pretty but carrying it in my purse daily is just not possible due to the extra weight of the leather. For everyday toting I use a Waterfield sleeve which is perfect for protection without a lot of extra weight.

Great giveaway!

I would like to enter the giveway for a Kindle cover. I am a Kindle owner, having a Kindle DX.
My favorite book so far this summer is SNOW FLOWER and the SECRET FAN by Lisa See.
I have an M Edge Cover
My favorite of the ones shown and would like to win is Noreve with the wallet.
By the way, my skin on my DX is the same one pictured on the Kindle in the Noreve cover.

1. I have had a second generation Kindle for about six months and I LOVE it.

2. My favorite summer book changes every summer. Last year I read all the Southern Vampire Mystery books in about three weeks at the beach and loved them. This summer I've found myself leaning more towards non-fiction and travel, particularly Oliver Sacks, Bill Bryson, Maarten Troost and AJ Jacobs.

3. I currently have a basic green cover that uses the hinge system and has two elastic straps to hold the corners of the Kindle in place. I like the JAVOedge cover because it seems very simple and different from my everyday cover, and I particularly like the little stand. I could definitely see myself using it, especially if I am reading at the table.

Lara, awesome selection of Kindle cases. I expect no less from you, haha. So for the entry ...

I have a new Kindle and love it - even after getting my iPad. I wouldn't want to read a book any other way now that I have a Kindle.

I'm not sure I have a favorite *summer* author, as I switch genres all the time. Bill Bryson's travel memoirs would make a great read for the summer though. He's one of my favorites.

I'm currently using an M-Edge Latitude case for my Kindle. I like it, but it's not pretty, by any means. But it gets the job done. I love the Halsea case, though. I love bright, loud patterns and the Moleskin-style cases.

Looking forward to your next post and good luck to everyone who entered the giveaway.

1. I will be a Kindle owner in 2 days! I just ordered mine & I can't wait.
2. I don't know that I have a specific "summer" author. I kind of just read what sounds good at the time. I read everything & as long I have a book going and a book waiting, I'm happy!
3. I have ordered a M-Edge cover to go with my Kindle, so I don't know if I will like it or not, but I LOVE the looks of the Octovo Quilted.

Great giveaway & perfect timing for me!

Yep, I have a kindle 2 and LOVE IT!! Best gadget purchase I've made since my Iphone.

I love to read easy fun books during the summer. With the kids home, my time to read gets shortened. So, I like reads that don't take too much concentration to follow and brings a smile to my face. Something that makes me laugh! The next few months is usually when I read a good amount of chic lit.

I have a JavoEdge Snake skin and a lumberjack case right now. I love JavoEdge's holster for the kindle. It gives me a very nice sense of security.. and the Snake Skin case is absolutely divine! And the kickstand comes in real handy!! Out of the four you've reviewed today, the one I'm most intrigued by is the Noreve. I like the idea of the rail system, and I've read some really great reviews about their cases. If I was in the market for a new case, and had the fund, I would consider a Noreve very seriously.

I love this giveaway!

1. I'm not a Kindle owner YET... but will be soon!
2. My summer read: Appetite for Life by Noel Riley Fitch
3. JAVOedge is the most appealing to me for two reasons. I love the idea look AND it's also a stand which will be perfect for reading recipes.

Crossing my fingers!

I love my Kindle 2! It also is how I discovered your fantastic blog.

I read Garden Spells, which you also mentioned recently and think it is the perfect summer read.

I love that Halsea cover, especially after seeing your pics, I had no idea when I looked at it on the site it was laminated! I also love this effect on fabrics, ever since I discovered Orla Kiely. You make al these covers look fantastic but that is the one I want!

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLeslie Pope

Love your reviews and the beautiful pictures you post!

I have a Kindle 2 and absolutely love it! I hate when I have to go back to reading regular books now.

My summer reading changes every year, but I just finished the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning and it would be an awesome choice for summer reading. The only problem is the books are so hard to put down that you would be done with the series in a week :-).

I am currently using a light purple Noreve cover. And I have to say....the Noreve appeals to me the most. I absolutely love the rail system and how simple and compact the whole cover is. Yes, they could do away with the travel wallet - but this is still my favorite cover so far.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPatty S

1. I have my Kindle 2 for about a year.
2. I just finished The Forgotten Garden. I've noticed you're reading it too.
3. I had M-Edge Platform, but then bought an Oberon. After using it for 6 months, I think I'm going back to M-Edge. Oberon is too bulky and heavy for me.

Hi Lara,
I got to enter this one!! yipee for me:) I just love the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. I am entering to win a cover for my daughter. She has a beautiful Oberon Cover which is green and has the "Tree of Life" embeded on the leather. And BTW...I am now a follower on FB. I Love, Love. Pie!

My hubby bought a kindle for me at Christmas-I love it! I haven't read a hard copy book since then.

One book I plan to read this summer is Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs(I'm waiting for the price to go down). The Mercy Thompson books are quite entertaining.

I currently have a black amazon kindle cover, it's functional , but not pretty (hubby bought it with the kindle) and I have a beautiful skin on the kindle by Decal Girl.

I just love super soft leather so my 1st choice would be the Noreve. However, I really like the design of Halsea for M-Edge.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commentersheila

1) I have had my Kindle for well over a year. I love it. My husband thought it would cut down on my book consumption - but i actually buy more now because it is so easily done. Press a button - get a download.

2) A perfect summer book is (quite suitably) " The Summer Book" by Tove Jannson. And when summer gets too hot i will re-read Tove Jannson's "The True Deceiver" with its great Finnish winter setting.

3) I have a Patagonia cover. It is a very useful cover - but very drab. I would love something bright
and cheerful like the JAVOedge. I also like that one because of the built in stand.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCyndie C

I have a K2 that I bought about 14 months ago.
Probably my favorite summer read would be The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
I currently use a pink, croc leather sleeve from Javoedge.

The Noreve probably appeals to me the most, because I am a sucker for really nice leather.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterElaine

I just had to tell you that your blog is so lovely! I adore all of the pictures and your layout is just beautiful! I can't wait to see what you post next.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterStudio MME

1) I do currently own a Kindle, and I LOVE it! I haven't bought a DTB since I received my Kindle as a b-day gift back in September.

2) I don't have any particular "summer" reads. I've actually been on a young-adult fantasy book kick lately, for some reason these books are just fun! (I just finished re-reading the Fablehaven series).

3) I am currently not using a cover, but a sleeve. The sleeve is from M-edge and the quality is top-notch. To date, I haven't found a cover that I felt I had to have, but, I must admit, the Halsea from M-edge is gorgeous and it is going on the "must have" list.

Love the Kindle covers & would love to win one. Yes, I own a Kindle and I use the original cover it came with. I really like the Octovo Quilted, it's simple & beautiful.

1.) I do own a Kindle and I LOVE it! It may sound strange but I hate book clutter so this is perfect for me. I also love being able to order new books at anytime.

2.) I just finished a sample of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" so that is my next read. Then I'll probably read the rest of the series...

3.) I really love the Octovo cover the best! Very sleek and stylish! I do not currently have a cover for my Kindle.

I'll be joining your Facebook page as soon as I click the button below :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the reviews and the contest. They are all lovely and if I could choose to have any, it would be a hard choice..
1. I own a kindle...just received for mother's day and absolutely love it.
2. Favorite summer author is Janet Evanovich.
3. No cover yet, but sure need one and can't afford one! I think that I like simplicity of of the Octo cover the best. I love leather. I like the first one the best for practicality and love fun the look and the extra sleeve. I like the Javo cover for the flip style and the light weight. I'd certainly love to have any of them!

Such great covers! Thanks for a fun giveaway!
* Are you aKindle owner (not required) or just thinking about it?

Not yet, but I am hoping to get one this summer!

* What is one of your favorite summer books or authors?

I'm an historian, so I'm usually reading non-fiction, and I love all kinds of theory, esp. Baudrillard! However, for fiction, I love love love the work of the Bronte sisters, Bret Easton Ellis, and Assia Djebar.

* What cover are you using now and which of these most appeals to you and why?

I don't have my Kindle yet, but the cover I love the most of these is the first one, the amazing pink geometric patterned one by Halsea by M-Edge!

Thanks again :)

1. I got a Kindle for Christmas. It has made it possible for me to do so much more reading than I could before. I have a condition that causes my hands to cramp easily and holding heavy books was painful.

2. I have been reading classics that I never read before. I anticipate that will continue over the summer.

3. I don't have a cover for my book yet, partially due to expense, partially due to so many wonderful choices out there. All of these appeal to me, for different reasons. If I were going to purchase one, it would probably be the Halsea because of it's simplicity and price.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer Aldridge

1. I received a K2 for Christmas 2009. I LOVE it
2. Carl Hiaasen is always a fun, summer read!
3. I am currently using a M-edge Prodigy. I really like the halse for M-edge cover. The colors are fantastic and I like that it looks pretty light.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMel

I have had my Kindle 2 for over a year now. I love it & take it everywhere in my Oberon cover. My fave summer author is probably Nora Roberts. I really love the blush color of the Octovo Quilted cover. Thanks, Cathy

Are you aKindle owner (not required) or just thinking about it? Yes - My husband gave me a Kindle for Christmas and I LOVE it.
What is one of your favorite summer books or authors? Summer (especially vacation) has to be about quick fun reads - suspense or romance. Sandra Brown, Anne Rivers Siddons, John Grisham, Dorothy Benton Frank, Nicholas Sparks....
What cover are you using now and which of these most appeals to you and why? I have a red leather M-edge but have been drooling over the Octovo covers for months debating if my current cover needs replacement yet. Probably not after only 6 months, but it's nice to dream.

May 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJen

1. Yes, I am a proud K2i owner! I try to convince anyone who will listen that I think they should take the plunge and become a Kindle owner too!

2. My current summer reading (and it will probably consume my entire summer) is the Outlander Series by Diana Gabeldon. I've just started Book 3, Voyager. I'm totally consumed by the adventures of Jaime and Claire.

3. I currently have the Octovo - Weave in Brown/Black. I also own an M-Edge Go! cover. I love a cover that just feels great in my hands...and of course, I always have to get a coordinating skin! The total package just wouldn't be complete without one!
