Green is Good

Green tomatoes are just tomatoes that have not ripened and many stores now carry them. I have been asked about this recipe many times and thought it was worth a repost.

Fried Green Tomato Salad

Prepare a dry batter with about 1/4 cup of corn meal and a 1/4 cup of flour, season with bay seasoning, salt & pepper. Dip slices of tomato into an egg wash mixed with milk or buttermilk and then into dry mix, drop into hot pan with olive oil or if you want to go hole hog, bacon fat and fry till both sides are golden brown, then place on a paper towel. In a bowl mix your favorite greens, avocado, red onion, havarti cheese and bacon, if your so inclined. Finally, add tomatoes, S&P and dressing of your choice...I likeTrader Joe's Organic Ranch.

Oh yes I have that cookbook, love it! I have made, this past year, since getting it about half the recipes and they are good.

I am dying to try fried green tomatoes. I can't find them where we are but maybe the new farmer's market might have them.

Maybe try one of those hanging tomato plants? I think they do well even on a terrace, my parents have one and they love it.
