Thursday Three: 3 Best TV Shows EVER
I discovered Six Feet Under midway into the series, which spanned five seasons on HBO. So enamored was I that I watched the first two seasons I had missed in one long weekend marathon. A complexed and layered portrait of the family behind a family run mortuary. I actually went to school with a girl who lived this life and even road in a van with her once, along with an occupied coffin. I would prod her for stories and she had a great sense of humor about it all. This series also includes probably the best finale of all time.
This amazing little show only lasted one season and I have no idea why, it is a near flawless look at growing up in the 70's. From the funny dudes behind Super Bad and Knocked Up and the launching pad for many rising stars like James Franco and Seth Rogen. I literally cried when I started the final disc, just because I new there would be no more.
Last but defiantly not least, I love me some Dexter! Based on the books by Jeff Lindsay about a vigilante serial killer who abides by a deeply entrenched moral code. He only goes after the particularly heinous who deserve his own gruesome form of justice. I believe this show works so well mainly because of the remarkable Michael C. Hall who walks the line between hero and monster like a Wallenda. Probably no surprise that he also played a major roll in Six Feet Under. The fifth season arrives September 26th on Showtime .

Congrats to the winners of the Rooster 14 Giveaway. The response was so good Nancy was kind enough to offer up a 2nd prize for the bonus Facebook entries. The winner from the comment entries is Rozi, number 51. The bonus FB winner is Juli S. Thanks y'all!

Yes, I agree, Dexter is one of the best shows I have ever seen. I don't have cable, but my friends were going on and on about it, so I rented the first season on DVD a few months back and was immediately hooked! I'm still trying to catch up on the 4th season, but will have to wait until next year when the 5th season comes out on DVD. :(
if you loved six feet under, i'm going to have to look into dexter ... my husband and i are loyal series people and subscribe to hbo only for their series ... we LOVED six feet under, so i'm sure we'll love dexter also ... and that six feet under finale was definitely one of the best series finales ever ... i still youtube it every once in a while because i get the song stuck in my head or i want to see claire's amazing wall of pictures ... thanks for the reminder of such an amazing show ... and the suggestion of a new series
Freaks and Geeks was one of my favorite shows! Its still completely beyond me that it ended after one season! Thanks for the reminder and the other suggestions!
oh, i couldn't agree with you more! "six feet under"'s finale still makes me bawl, even though i've seen it at least 10 times.
I used to love Freaks and Geeks so much!
I loved Freaks & Geeks! I believe that the IFC re-run the entire series this summer, but you can also find it on Netflix. Never saw Six Feet Under, but it's on my "to-do" list. Don't have an interest in Dexter, but I would have added "Lost" to this list. I am SO missing that show!!!
We loved Six Feet Under and were sad when it ended.
Congrats to the winners!
I know most people rave about your photos and I am one of them but I have to say, I also enjoy how you write. You have such a great sense of humor, the Walenda comment made me laugh out loud. Yet so true and so perfect. I think is the combo of both your amazing photography and your smart and funny words that make this one of my favorite blogs. Bravo.
long time -- so funny, i had watched the first 2 seasons of 6ft under a couple of winters ago, turned my bosses on to it recently, and now have the 3rd season waiting upstairs for my viewing -- as for dexter, started watching that about a week ago and am finishing the first season tonight -- i didn't have it for a couple of nights and was having withdrawals ;) it is that good and i am no fan of tv for the most part...have you watched madmen?
I love Madmen, would defiantly make my top 5!
