The Many Faces of Holden Grey

I spent a fun morning photographing Holden Grey, my friend Jeff's 16 month old handful. Babies are always a challenge, which is why most commercial shoots will book multiple kids for the same ad.

"When kids hit 1 year old, it's like hanging out with a miniature drunk. You have to hold onto them. They bump into things. They laugh and cry. They urinate. They vomit." ... Johnny Depp

Keep your set ups simple, natural light is key, since it is faster and you don't risk a bad reaction to the flash. I always tell parents not to load them up on sugar before hand and to keep the wardrobe classic and simple, free of logos and busy patterns.

From agony to delight within a single frame.

How kawaii is this little face? Be mobile so you can get the most from each set up and not miss those great moments. I never use a tripod when shooting with SLRs.

Perhaps my favorite image from the shoot, shot with a very shallow depth of field.

Such an amazing setup for natural light ... Is that a portable backdrop? I agree the last one is beautiful ... I love this look for portraits.
Thanks for sharing!

Yes Kassandra, I use a portable background set up. Details and a link to that set up can be found here!
