Last summer I shot a very fun project for Chronicle Books with Nail Artist Madeline Poole and today is the release day for our efforts: Nails, Nails, Nails! I have to admit I am more than pleased that my name made the front of the final version of the cover. I only just noticed it as I was working on this post, it was not on earlier versions I was sent.

We were able to put together a very talented team on a fairly slim budget for this fun and challenging project. I enlisted Shiffy Kagen to style the photos and my good friend Wendy Osmundson to do the hair & make up. Together we worked over three days to produce the "hero" shots that would help illustrate Madeline's unique vision.

We also enlisted M Model Managment to find our models, electing to go with editorial girls with decent hands, rather than "hand models". Casting, as always is key... so we met all the candidates in person. Hands are tricky... just take a close look at your own.

I also had fun photographing the tools her trade, which of course includes tons of pretty polish. Madeline now has her own line of fun polish sets via Sephora.

As with any project, some of my favorites did not make the final cut and in this case, even images I loved were heavily cropped to emphasize the nails. Totally understandable of course. So now I get to have some fun and create my own edit. Creative nail art has become one of the hottest trends and this book makes it easy for almost anyone to do it themselves.
