Sunny Side Up

To brighten up those of you still feeling the winter blues, I present an ode to the lovely & oft under appreciated color yellow. Try adding a bright snap to a little black dress, like we did by adding a colorful vintage sweater and strappy sandles to a pretty graphic design by the awesom Lesley Evers

Try a gazpacho made with yellow tomatoes.

A fab selection of Hazel Atlas State drinking glasses I found at a Florida flea market.

This luscious corn bisque from Holy Taco in Atlanta is heavenly.

Fuji proves that film is not dead with their Instax line offered in a rainbow if hues and check out these groovy ideals for storing and displaing your instant images by Danielle Thompson.

These bite size lemon bars from Trader Joe's are just 45 yummy calories.

The Yellow Wallpaper is a haunting story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman written in 1890 but it still can send a chill or two down the spine.

I fell hard for this pretty Lotta Jansdotter fabric and used it to make curtains for my living room. Don't be jealous.

Four different kawaii styles to add to your purse collection...from top left Modcloth, J.Crew, Fossil & Orla Kiely.

Fossil-ize

Fossil has started creating fun and funky cases for e-readers. They sent me their newest "Key-Per" design to test out and review for Pie. It is both the perfect cover for traveling or everyday.

It has 4 credit card slots, several pockets, including a hidden one behind the reader and a secure zippered closure. Both the exterior and interior use a laminated cotton, which I love. It could easily be used on its own as an all in one clutch. Though it is still slim and light enough to fit into a medium size purse.

It securely holds either a Kindle 2 (above) or the Nook. A smaller version for the new Kindle 3 is in the works. It does not fold back but does lay flat when opened. You can also remove the reader easily if you prefer to read that way.

Love this key charm detail on the zipper. This cover will be available in mid October. Can't wait? Check out this groovy sleeve option.

UPDATE! The cover is now available! Click here to order. Or win this one!

Lost & Found

I shot this story for the magazine, Mirabella, which was started by the former editor and chief of Vogue, Grace Mirabella who'd been replaced by Anna Wintour. The fashion editor took a big fancy to my work and gave me a huge spread. However, she was snapped up by Ralph Lauren and the story was then shelved.

We shot most of the story in and around the Plaza Hotel with the focus on making cloths do double duty when you travel. Like the lightweight trench coat above can also work as a robe.

Good basics and layers are a great way to get the most out of your travel wardrobe. It is also a way to save space in your carryon, wear on a few comfy layers! Something like the outfit below, is perfect for a flight or cross country drive.

One sparkly item is all you need to create a great evening look. It was this image below I rediscovered and used on Pie a few weeks ago, that reminded me of this long lost story.

Yes, it is heartbreaking when a shoot you love doesn't make it to print...so it is exciting to have this outlet to give new life to these images. It also is a tribute to the editor that even though they were shot quite a few years ago, they still look very current. If your curious to learn more about what goes on behind the making of a magazine, then I urge you to see the excellent & fascinating documentary: The September Issue.
