Specialization

Photographers are usually defined by what they shoot and back in the day I would have called myself a "fashion & celebrity portrait" photographer. However as I've evolved, the lines have blurred until there are almost none. Still, clients usually just want to see work that pertains to their needs so creating visuals that highlight my specialties seems a timely ideal.

This is where I think Issuu is a fantastic tool. A way to create instant portfolios, easily accessible online. Now with 2 reps to provided materials for, it is also more cost efficient. To view on a tablet use this link.

The Eagle has Landed!

The drive west could not have gone smoother and I signed the lease on a lovely apartment just a few days after I got here. All my Craig's List stalking paid off and I move in this weekend. I can hardly wait to start making it my own. In the meantime I have updated my flip book presentation and created a sparkly new promo to send out to clients.

Pie should return to a normal posting schedule by the 28th, thanks to all of you for your patience!

Instant Gratification

I spent most of last week working on a grouping of my work for an online portfolio via Issuu. As apposed to a website, this presentation is more like an actual book style portfolio. It's a great new tool for presenting your work digitally yet still professionally.

Being able to send the direct link to creatives and clients is a fantastic promotional tool. I believe there is so much potential. On the downside, it is a bit time consuming, every time you make a revision you have to upload an entirely new document which can take about an hour. I probably uploaded 6 versions before I was happy enough with the one above to actually make it public. It also requires flash so it can't be viewed on an iPad and the alternative view is cumbersome to navigate.

You can easily tailor a portfolio to a specific market which is another great advantage. This first book shows a little of everything, divided into four sections, a good presentation for ad agencies that have multiple clients. I also plan to do one book for each catagory. Often clients only want to see what applies directly to their needs.

Color Me Spring!

"When God made me born a yankee he was teasin'..."

By far, the best argument for living in the South is this beautiful season. My historic neighborhood of Grant Park comes into bloom like no other and walking through it makes me silly with  happiness. I wanted to capture the beauty of it while I had chance, cause it sadly does not last very long.

I have always wanted to have my own magazine. In junior high I made one for a school project, cutting & pasting it together and xeroxing every page. I even landed an interview with actress Teri Garr for it. I bombarded her agent with calls and one night, just before dinner the phone rang. I can still remember my Mom's astonished face after she asked who it was. I was 13. So you might imagine how exciting I find a site like Issuu, which allows anyone to digitally publish! So above is a little slice of Pie with the full shoot, follow the prompts to see it in high res form. Don't see it? Then click this button.

If you have an Issuu account you can subscribe to future Pie Publications here.

Speights & Faron, who kindly provided the bags for this shoot, is giving away these adorable jute handbags! Can't wait? They are also offering 15% off through April 30th with the promo code: PIEWACKET
