Driving Mr.Finch

Some of you may be wondering at this point how I plan to make this move across the country. Believe me, I have put much thought and research into this and am still working out the details. I will probably ship my stuff and drive my truck. My biggest concern has been Atticus, who associates his cat carrier and my truck with going to the vet. So I looked for another option online and that is when I discovered the Lookout Pet Car Seat by Snoozer Pet Products. The only problem was all the examples and info was only for dogs. After looking at many options, I felt like this one could be easily adapted for a cat, so I sent them my ideal and they liked it and sent me one to test out!

This is essentially a soft and cushy booster seat and allows your small pet to see while still being held comfortably and securely. It's very easy to set up, you pull the seatbelt across the back which keeps the seat secure.

Then you hook up the included connection belt to the seatbelt which clips onto your pet's harness. I liked the seats simple but sturdy construction. It is ready right out of the box and they have a nice variety of patterns and colors to choose from. For a 10% off promo code, just "Like" Snoozer on Facebook!

I found an x- small harness at Petco which is actually made for dogs (up to 10 lbs) but fits Atticus perfectly who is about 11.5 lbs. I originally got a size larger but it was way too big. Cats have those long, accordion like bodies so that is probably why. The few they had made for cats seemed way to flimsy, I did not want him getting tangled up or breaking free, incase he panicked. Don't get one that goes around the neck, it could cause choking.

You also want to be sure and turn off your passenger seat airbag before setting out.

I took him to the nearby park and then just hooked on a leash and let him walk in the grass a bit... hoping to train him to like rest stops! Though a bit nervous, over all his reaction was very good and I think with more practice he will be an excellent little passenger on our journey west!

Porch Progress

For over a year the exterior of my home has been going through a slow and painstaking makeover. I must credit my landlords who see no point in undertaking such a task, if you're not going to do it right. Above is one of the last remaining patches of unpainted exterior. I am almost sad to see it go... almost.

This wonderful old wall that was once on the side of my house has been completely replaced by brick. I am just so glad I had the foresight to use it as a backdrop while I could.

The new color is a kind of kaki brown. If it were up to me, I might have gone with a tropical green but I like this as well.

The porch itself is covered with tarps and tools but the light at the end of the tunnel is very near. We are promised the job will be completed the end of this month.

There is still so much to be done so it seems hard to believe... but I am hopeful.

This might be considered more of a restoration than a reno. My house is close to 100 years old and you don't slap on a coat of paint and call it a day.

I look forward to spending what might be my last Southern summer on my beautiful made-over porch. I will post plenty of pictures once it is all done.

A Life Less Ordinary

The beauty of ordinary objects... this I think is the appeal of a "pick". Hunting through what others have long discarded. I made a trip over to one of my favorite local treasure troves... Antiques & Beyond

Love this booth, lots of gadgets, cameras and advertising pieces.

A danish mid-century pitcher.

Colored depression glass is usually a good investment.

I love books from all periods.

I love typewriter tins and decided I needed a couple.

Deers have always been popular more so than ever.

I can't really explain the appeal of this little bottle but at $3 I had to have it.

Kawaii Salvage

I live near a very old church that was recently sold and they tossed out items that had been gathering dust for decades. Dozens of chairs were set out along with other curious items. I snagged this circus fabric which held a very old pillow form.

I could not resist these two windsor style children's chairs, even though don't yet have a use for them.
