Sprucing Pie

A New Year and a new look for Piewacket. I spent a lot of last week working on some changes, some subtle, some not so subtle. The biggest part of the redesign is the banner, which I had just grown tired of. I wanted one that let people know right up front that this is primarily a photo blog and that reflected more of my personal style.

These are just a few of the various banner incarnations I tried. I cropped, changed colors, tried different boarders and layer styles till I got it where it is now. Ultimately, I decided the dark type balances better with the dark of the camera but added a few letters in the orange for punch.

Next I changed the background color, something I had wanted to do for a while. It is not hard to do with my Squarespace templet but it meant changing all of my titles which were all made to blend with the previous yellow back ground. So I also changed the font and colors while I was at it.

I also changed many of the other elements that had no longer blended with the new color. Like these cupcakes I had placed on the actual background color so it floats. I do everything in photoshop and load it up as a photo, even the type headings. Sometimes I think if it were possible to bake a cake in photoshop, I would figure it out eventually.
This book on CS4 (which is what I use) has gotten great reviews and they have them for other versions. I update my software every other year, or only if a camera I am using requires it. Good editing software is essential to making great photos, it is not just about pushing a button. Never does an image go right from my camera to this blog, there is a lot of work done first. I hope you like the new changes, I would love your feedback.
